Influencing Sunset Review of the Texas Department of Insurance

Every twelve years the Legislature reviews the policies and programs of state agencies to determine their effectiveness. During the 2009 session, the Legislature will conduct its sunset review of the Texas Department of Insurance. The Legislature’s actions could have far-reaching effect on the agency’s regulation of the industry and the functioning of the insurance market. TALHI’s involvement with the sunset process will ensure that member companies’ interests are represented. As a TALHI member you will receive:

  • timely updates on the results of the sunset review process and how the changes will effect your company.

Trusted Source of Useful Information

TALHI is the organization that both the Legislature and industry turn to in seeking answers about insurance matters. Serving as the resource center and clearinghouse for the industry, TALHI is in the unique position to provide trusted information to decision makers and industry leaders. TALHI’s broad membership has established it as a respected and influential voice for insurance. As a TAHLI member you will receive:

  • copies and interpretations of laws, rules and opinions affecting the industry;
  • access to information on emerging issues and industry trends in Texas as well as the nation and
  • an invitation to attend the association’s Legislature Forum.

TALHI’s advocacy team has decades of experience representing the insurance industry in Texas. By aligning the interests of member companies, TALHI ensures the industry’s resources are united toward common goals. TALHI’s ability to provide a strong and unified voice for insurance is invaluable in advancing the industry’s interests. As a TALHI member you will receive:

  • regular legislative reports with opportunities for input to proposed changes and suggestions for action;

TALHI meetings and events allow industry leaders the opportunity to network with their peers in both business and social settings. These forums offer an exchange of information and ideas to keep key executives up-to-date on emerging industry trends and regulatory developments from around the country. As a TALHI member you will receive:

  • invitations to seminars and working groups on legislative and regulatory proposals affecting the industry;
  • opportunities for involvement on committees of interest to your industry and company and
  • connection to industry leaders and the opportunity to network at association events including the organization’s annual conference.

Membership and Dues Information

Regular Members

Any life and health insurance company, or group (“fleet”) of companies, licensed to write life and/or health insurance business in Texas may become a regular member of the Texas Association of Life & Health Insurers. Executives and other officers from many companies, large and small, from coast to coast, contribute their time, talents and support for the continuing progress of the Texas life and health insurance industry through TALHI.

Regular Member dues are determined on a graduated scale, based on premium income in Texas as reported in a company’s annual statement. Dues are payable annually on February 1st or semi-annually on February 1st and October 1st.

Any company that has not been a member of TALHI within the previous two years and who joins the organization during 2010 will receive half off of regular dues from the date of joining through the end of 2010. Additionally, the company will receive one free registration to TALHI’s 2010 annual meeting.

Associate Members

Accounting, actuarial, law, computer, consulting, marketing, banking, financial, reinsurance and brokerage firms engaged in serving the life and health insurance industry are welcome to join TALHI. TALHI associate membership allows you to stay informed on major issues and changing legislative and regulatory matters facing your existing clients. Many firms find associate membership in TALHI is an excellent way to network and make valuable contacts for potential clients. In addition, associate members frequently contribute their expertise in presentations at TALHI annual meetings and forums.

Associate member dues are currently a flat fee of $1,575 per year. New Associate Member dues are pro-rated for the balance of the year following the date of joining. Dues may be paid annually at February 1st, or semi-annually of February 1st and October 1st.
