Message from the Executive Director

Welcome to the TALHI Website.

The Texas Association of Life and Health Insurers consists of more than one hundred life and health insurers doing business in Texas. We work to ensure a strong and competitive insurance market exists to offer Texans the products they seek to provide financial security for themselves and their families. We also strive to create opportunities for insurers to support growth and economic development within our state.

We are proud that:

• Health insurers paid more than $22 billion in health care costs for Texans in 2007
• Texas residents have $2 trillion in death benefit coverage
• Life insurance companies invest approximately $320 billion in the Texas economy
• Insurance companies are the largest institutional investor of municipal bonds in Texas.

We support the state’s efforts to provide appropriate rules and regulations to guarantee that insurers are solvent, scrupulous, and living up to their contractual obligations. We also believe that the state has a critical role in fostering a healthy insurance market that offers price competitiveness and product diversity while encouraging insurers to bring capital to Texas.
