Meeting with new Agent & Adjuster Licensing Director Chris Herrick and Administrative Operations Deputy Commissioner & CFO Nancy Clark
Jennifer Cawley, Jay Thompson and TALHI Board VP Suzanne Loomis met with Chris Herrick and Nancy Clark to discuss several ongoing agent licensing issues, including declining pass rates, “probationary” licenses, and the federal VA program that Texas has not participated in for several years. Several TALHI members also joined in via conference call. Herrick and Clark were both interested in our concerns and asked some very good questions. Plans are already in the works to adjust questions on the licensing exam to address the pass rate issue, and TDI will be reviewing their vendor contracts. Jennifer will follow up with Charles Miller in the Governor’s Office to find out if any progress has been made with the Texas Veterans Commission on their decision to not participate in the federal VA program that pays for veteran licensing exam fees.

Upcoming NCOIL Meeting: Texas Dinner, Thursday, July 12th
TALHI, along with representatives from USAA, AIG, NAMIC, and Texas Mutual, is hosting a dinner at the upcoming NCOIL meeting. Texas Representative Tom Oliverson, who is Vice Chair of the Health, Long-Term Care and Health Retirement Issues Committee at NCOIL, and his Chief of Staff Eiman Siddqui will be joining us. Also invited is Libby Elliott, TDI’s Director of Government Relations and Cari Christman, Senator Larry Taylor’s Chief of Staff. Meeting with Libby Elliott, Director of TDI Government Relations
Jennifer is meeting with Libby Elliott to discuss the TDI org chart, the upcoming NAIC meeting, and the possibility of holding quarterly meetings with TDI staff. If you have any other topics you’d like Jennifer to discuss with Libby, please send her an email.
