TALHI Key Bill Updates
SB 1852 by Paxton, TALHI's bill removing the signature requirement on renewal of a consumer choice plan, was heard yesterday in the Senate Business & Commerce Committee. There was no testimony in opposition to the bill. SB 437 by Nelson, the opioid antagonist in life insurance underwriting bill, was also heard in that same committee. The committee substitute with TALHI's agreed-to language was laid out. Senator Nelson thanked the life insurance industry for working with her on the bill. No bills were voted on in yesterday's hearing, but both are expected to be voted out early next week. SB 1153, TALHI's bill updating the Guaranty Association law, is expected to be set on the Local and Uncontested Calendar for April 11, but Chairman Hancock also placed it on the Senate Intent Calendar in case it can be voted out of the Senate more quickly. Either way, the bill should move quickly to the House thereafter. HB 2820 by Flynn, TALHI's 403(b) bill, has been placed on the House Calendar for Tuesday, April 9. Finally, next Tuesday the House Insurance Committee will hear HB 3306 by Smithee, the Corporate Governance Model.
