Bad Bills Dead; TALHI Priorities Moving
HB 2378 by Raymond, which would require life insurers to disclose beneficiaries to funeral directors, was not voted out of House Insurance last night. Committee staff indicate the bill will not be voted out. Capriglione's privacy bill, HB 4390, has a new CS which makes the bill a breach notification bill and creates an advisory council. ACLI has reviewed the bill and has no concerns. Finally, HB 3827 by Longoria, which creates a data match program for delinquent taxes similar to the AG's child support lien program, is being heard this morning in House committee. The Comptroller has agreed to remove insurers from the bill.

TALHI's package of bills continue to move through the process. Our efforts to educate Chairman Hancock on the need for the Corporate Governance bill HB 3306/SB 2122 have been successful. The Senate will wait for the House Bill to come over, but if it gets waylaid in the process the Senate Committee will move the Senate Bill.
