Sullivan Calls for Clear Communications
Insurance Commissioner Kent Sullivan continues his campaign for “plain language” in all aspects of TDI communications in order to enhance clarity, readability, and the user experience. He is asking insurers to take time to review their materials and decisions from the consumer perspective, and is offering resources including a plain language resources page and 10 tips for plain language. TALHI met with Commissioner Sullivan on Monday, along with AHIP and TAHP, to discuss improving the readability of “Explanation of Benefits” or EOBs for health insurance claims. Expect more scrutiny on consumer communications in all lines of insurance in the future.

Veto Period Ends Sunday
The deadline for Governor Abbott to veto bills is Sunday, June 16th. So far all TALHI priority legislation has been signed except for HB 3306, the Corporate Governance Model. We do not expect Governor Abbott to veto the bill, though he may let the bill become law without his signature, which is his prerogative.

“Not WC” Notice Proposal Dropping Soon (Really!)
