TALHI Bills Expected Set Next Week
More TALHI priority bills are expected to be heard in committee next week. The Senate Business & Commerce Committee should hear SB 1852 by Paxton next Thursday, which is TALHI’s bill removing the signature requirement on renewal of a consumer choice plan.

Texas LHIGA Bill Sent to Local Calendar in Senate
TALHI’s bill updating the Guaranty Association law was unanimously voted out of the Senate committee and sent to the Local and Uncontested Calendar. This means the bill will not be subject to debate on the Senate floor and should move quickly to the House. The House version is still pending in committee, but when the Senate bill makes it to the House committee, the Chair of House Insurance can just swap the House bill for the Senate bill without a hearing since the House bill has already had one. Stay tuned.

Amendment to 403(b) Bill Successfully Opposed
An unwelcome amendment to the TALHI-supported HB 2820 has been successfully thwarted, with the lobbyist for TCG Administrators notifying the bill author Representative Flynn and the committee chairman that they support the bill without the additional language. We expect HB 2820 to be voted favorably from the House PIFS Committee next week.
